  • Activity Description

The International Bridge Design Competition (IBDC) is a competition held as part of the 11th Civil Engineering Innovation Contest of Civil Engineering at Diponegoro University, which carries the theme “Strong and Innovative Bridge Design in Sustainable Disaster Mitigation Efforts for Better Future Development”. Bridges are one of the aspects; they also have a quite crucial role in increasing connectivity between regions in a country. In terms of disaster mitigation, bridges also play a crucial role, so bridges that meet service standards are needed. With these various backgrounds, the Civil Engineering Student Association of Diponegoro University held the International Bridge Design Competition (IBDC) this year as a forum and stimulation for international students to be able to develop their ideas and design ideas about sturdy bridges while at the same time explaining innovations in methods of carrying out bridge construction and mitigation of existing disasters to produce a futuristic and sustainable bridge.

In this competition, there were 13 teams from various universities in Indonesia who competed with ideas for designing bridges. Of the 13 teams, 5 finalists and winners were obtained from this year’s International Bridge Design Competition (IBDC), where the ERGO-ITS Team won 1st place; 2nd place was won by the Force Majeure Team-UNDIP; 3rd place was won by the Jayandaru IT Team-State University of Malang; the 1st Champion of Hope was won by the DAKSA-ITS Team; and the 2nd Runner-Up Winner was won by the SS 06 Makayasa-UNS Team.

  • Activity Purpose

The purpose of holding this competition is to grow and develop students’ ability to design bridges as a form of application of the basic science of civil engineering. In addition, this competition can also train sensitivity and introduce students to more comprehensive planning issues and the encompassing factors that must be considered in bridge planning.

  • Activity Implementation Time

This series of competitions was carried out from February 6 to May 6, 2023.

  • Forms of activity

The International Bridge Design Competition (IBDC) activity itself begins with the distribution of a study case, and then participants are asked to make a planning proposal that includes various design elements and an analysis of the bridge structure. After that, the proposals will be collected and assessed by the relevant jury. Then there will be 5 finalists, and all finalists are asked to make video presentations and powerpoints that will be presented offline in the final stage, which will be held at Diponegoro University. In the final stage, participants are invited to present their design results, and a question-and-answer session is held by the jury.
